What is pet euthanasia? How do I know when it’s the right time for my pet to be euthanized?

Euthanasia is a medically induced way for your pet to cross the rainbow bridge. At the end of the day, the decision will always be up to you and your family. During a private consultation with your veterinarian, they will explain to you all of the options available. Pets who have a terminal illness that can no longer be managed with pain medication are examples of good candidates for euthanasia.

How is the euthanasia drug administered?

Here at Delton Veterinary Hospital, our team administers the medication through IV drip. Initially, it will cause your pet to fall into a peaceful sleep. Once unconscious, their organs will begin to fail. The procedure is completed in a matter of minutes.

Does your hospital provide bereavement counseling?

Even after the euthanasia has been administered, our team will continue to be here to support you and your loved ones. Please do not hesitate to ask us any questions about the loss of your pet, and feel free to reach out to us for more details on some highly useful resources and support groups we recommend.
